01 Write
One measure of serif text.
A page that is exactly what you typed.
A rich-text editor with the shortcuts everyone already has. Chapters in a list on the left. Everything saves on a pause in typing, and exports as Word, PDF or Markdown with real styles.
- Intent marks A paragraph with an intent carries a dot in the margin; a sentence with one is underlined faintly. Paint, not markup.
- Export Title, Heading 1, Quote and List Paragraph styles in the Word file; Source Serif 4 with page numbers in the PDF.
02 The midwife
Ask me. Suggest. Read back.
Draft. Rephrase.
With a level chosen and an intent stated, five things can be asked — and a free question about whatever is in focus. Every conversation is kept against its focus, so a paragraph revisited a week later still has its history.
- Read back What is already working, quoted, and exactly where the text parts company with the intent.
- Draft In your own voice as it shows on the page — insert it, or copy it, or leave it.
- Manner Gentle, direct or rigorous is a setting. What she knows is the same either way.
03 Sources
Bring what you have read.
She cites it, and never invents it.
Add PDFs, EPUBs, Word files or plain text to a piece. Each is read once, summarised section by section, and the passages that bear on a paragraph are found by lexical retrieval from what you wrote and what you said you wanted.
- Named She is told to name the source she draws on.
- Right of way A question you ask cuts the summarising short; it resumes after.

Qwen3.5 9B, Q4_K_M — the 4B on machines the 9B would not fit. Shared with smartreader and smartdiary.
16K window, so a chapter of five thousand words goes in whole with the intents, an outline and the sources beside it.
BM25 over paragraph-sized chunks of your sources. Lexical on purpose: exact, instant, explainable when it misses.
Pieces, sources and every conversation, written through a temp file and a rename; a trailing debounce, flushed when the window goes away.
